Died. - Harriett Ann Smith was born near Leroy, New York, May 15, 1818, and was married to John J. Mudgett, August 12, 1822. They moved to Iowa in 1839, crossing the Mississippi at Fort Madison and settled in Jasper County in 1844, where they have since resided. Mrs. Mudgett died of cancer in the breast Jan. 30th, 1886. The funeral services were held in the Galesburg M. E. Church, on the morning of Feb. 1st, conducted by Rev. S. T. Bishop, and the remains were interred in the cemetery at Mount Zion Church Buena Vista Township. ~ Newspaper unknown.
