Merle F. Foster, 90, died Jan. 26, 2010, in Carlsbad, Calif.
A graveside memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, June 14, at Silent City Cemetery in Monroe with military rites.

Merle F. Foster, 90, born in West Des Moines, IA, passed away in Carlsbad, CA, on January 26, 2010.
He graduated from Valley Junction High School, enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served for four years during World War II. For 60 years, he worked in the glass business as a salesman, estimator and manager in Iowa and San Diego County.
Merle retired at 85 and was proud of his long working career and military service. Irene Kane Foster, his wife of 59 years, predeceased him in 1998.
He is survived by his daughters, Carol Kraeuter of Cape May, NJ, and Barbara Saxton of Silver City, NM, and his five grandchildren, Kirtis and Erik Kraeuter; Katya, Matthew and David Saxton; and six great-grandchildren.
Merle loved to read, particularly history, collect antique bottles and volunteered at the Santee library. He was gregarious, liked to play cards, and tell stories to any willing listener. Interment will be private with his wife in Iowa.
