C. Sumpter, 62, Dies at Home; Rites Tuesday

Baxter - Charles Sumpter, 62, dies at his home 7 miles north of Baxter, Saturday, afternoon at 4 o'clock following an illness of the past two months.

Born Feb 12, 1880 in Clear Creek Township in Jasper County, the son of William and Mary Sumpter, he was married Jan. 26, 1906, to Ada Berry, who survives him.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Baxter Congregational church, with the Rev. David Arnold in charge. Burial will be in the Kintz cemetery.

Besides his wife he is survived by six children; Mrs. Leona Norvell of Colfax, Mrs. Hazel Hollingsworth of Blairsburg, Mrs. Irene Yochum of Colfax, Benjamin of Newton, and John and William at home. There are also four grandchildren, Willard and Collene Norvell, Patsy Ann Hollingsworth and Jerry Yochum. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, Monday May 11, 1942
