Harry Ogg Is Killed By Car on The Coast
Founder Automatic Co. Died on July 25; One of Flying's Early Boosters
Funeral services for Harry L. Ogg, 66, of 1641 Ocean Front, Santa Monica, Cal., were held July 25, at the Pierce Brothers Chapel in Venice, Cal., with burial at Broadlawns cemetery.
Mr. Ogg, a retired manufacturer and one of the founders of the Automatic Washer Co., in Newton, was struck by a car about 10:30 o'clock Thursday evening July 19, as he was crossing a street enroute from choir practice at the Venice christian Church to the home of a son, Harry L. Ogg Jr.
He died four hours later in the Santa Monica Hospital.
Survivors
He is survived by two sons, Harry L. of Venice and Frederick E. Ogg, who is in service and stationed at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Aberdeen, Md.; also by two granddaughters, Children of Harry L., and by a brother, George R. Ogg of Los Angeles.
Mr. Ogg was born in Newton Sept. 2, 1884, son of the late E. C. Ogg pioneer attorney, and the late Jennie Lamb Ogg, for whose parents Lamb's Grove was named.
In 1904 he was graduated from Newton High School and in 1908 from the University of Iowa in electrical engineering.
He served for many years as president of the Automatic Washer Co., and in recent years made his home in California.
In 1929 Mr. Ogg had a private plane built which was fitted in luxurious manner, including an office desk, typewriter and ediphone. He was an early devotee of aviation and forsaw its great possibilities.
In 1930, he built a $60,000 home in the northwest portion of Lam's Grove, which was razed by fire a number of years ago. ~ The Newton (IOWA) Daily News, Monday, July30, 1951
