Burns Fatal to Mrs. Ray Hammer, Lynnville Woman

Lynnville (Special) - Mrs. Ray Hammer, who was burned Saturday morning when a stove in the basement of her home exploded, died last night at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines.

Mrs. Hammer, who had been in critical condition for the past three days, was transferred to the Des Moines hospital from Oskaloosa earlier this week.

Mrs. Hammer is survived by her husband and two sisters, Alverta Ratliff of Lynnville and Mrs. Almeda Vander Pol of Newton and a brother, Glen Sparks, also of Lynnville.

Harden Funeral Home in New Sharon will have charge of arrangements.

I remember playing on the floor and Aleta came through the door and she was on fire. After 47 years it still seems like yesterday. I remember running out the back door and ran to the neighbors. Aleta died a couple days later from severe burns.
