Bertha Sarver, 67, Former Newtonite, Dies Tuesday

Miss Bertha Josephine Sarver, 67, a former resident of Newton and prominent business woman here, died Tuesday morning at Los Gatos, Calif.

Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Morgan-Loehr Funeral home. Burial will be in Newton Union Cemetery.

Miss Sarver was the sister of Mrs. F. L. Vernon of Newton and for many years worked at the Newton National bank.

For 12 years she was cashier of the Ahwahanee hotel in Yellowstone National Park. The hotel was taken over by the Navy during the war and used as a convalescent base. Miss Sarver received a meritorious citation for her work with the patients recuperating there.

She had lived for the past five years in Los Gatos where she made her home with her sister, the late Mrs. George King. Other survivors are several nieces and nephews.
She was born in Marion County near Knoxville on Aug. 27, 1889, one of a family of seven children.

Miss Sarver was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, AO-POE, TTT and Theta Chi. ~ Newton Daily News, Wednesday, August 7, 1957
