Edith L. Franklin, 90, of Newton died on Sunday, May 16, 2010, at her home at Park Centre.
A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 20, 2010, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton. Burial will be held at Newton Memorial Park Cemetery. Immediately following the burial the family will greet friends in the Garden Room at Park Centre.
Those left to honor Edith’s memory are her son, Ronald (Marla) Franklin of Des Moines; two daughters, Judy (Dennis) Carlsen of Germantown, Ohio, and Karen Zima of Denver, Colo.; her three grandchildren, Bill (Kathy) Carlsen of Kansas City, Kan., Kember (James) Nelson of Cedar Rapids and Shawn Zima of Ft. Gordon, Ga.; and five great-grandchildren.

Edith L. Franklin was born July 20, 1919.
Edith was preceded in death by her parents, Iowa Eli and Elsie (Delker) Hunter, and her husband, Leon, in 2002.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, 20+ year member of RSVP, and various other clubs and organization in her church and the community.
Edith graduated from Bonaparte High School in 1937 and then received her teaching certificate and taught school until she was married in 1942. After her children were in school she worked at an in home daycare and then as a secretary for the Vernon Company, where she retired in 1981.
Memorials to the First Presbyterian Church or the Jasper County Historical Museum may be left at the funeral home.
