KNOXVILLE — Stephen Floyd Arnold was born on Aug. 14, 1951, in Albia, Iowa, to John Max and Louise Helen (Glasford) Arnold. Stephen was raised in Lovilia and graduated from Albia High School, class of 1969.
In 1970, Steve began to work for the Maytag Company in Newton. He retired in 2000, after 30 years of service.
On Sept. 1, 1973, in Lovilia, Iowa, Stephen married Carol Toopes. They shared 36 years of marriage and are blessed with two children and three grandchildren.
Steve and Carol lived in Newton for 19 years. He refereed basketball and volleyball for middle school and enjoyed softball, bowling and sprint car racing. In 1994 they moved to Knoxville before his retirement in 2000.
Stephen passed away on Monday, May 10, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines at the age of 58 years, eight months and 27 days.
He was preceded in death by his parents John and Louise, and his brother, Tom Pugh.
Steve is survived by his wife, Carol Arnold of Knoxville; children, Eric and Staci Arnold of Newton and Stephanie Kenton and Bryan of Middletown, N.Y.; and three grandchildren, Presley, Jef and Aryanna. Steve also is survived by his mother-in-law, Laura McGrath of Albia, and his sister, Lillian Hoover of Marshalltown.
A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 14, at Winfield-Evans-McCleery Funeral Home in Knoxville. After services cremation will follow and a private family burial will be held at Highland Cemetery in Eddyville.
Visitation for Steve will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, May 13, at the Winfield-Evans-McCleery Funeral Home in Knoxville. Steve’s family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. this evening at the funeral home.
