David Q. Davis, the son of Victor F. and Ramona L. McCullough Davis, was born Sept. 13, 1939, in Kansas City, Mo. David graduated from the Newton Senior High School with the class of 1957 and went on to attend Luther and Drake colleges.
On Sept. 4, 1965, David was united in marriage with Carol Gullett in Newton, Iowa. David served in the Iowa Army National Guard from 1964 to 1969. He worked and was co-owner of Davis Advertising in Newton. David served as former mayor and 25-year council member in Lambs Grove, Iowa. He also was a member and past president of the Newton Jaycees. David loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, hunting, black powder shooting, black powder gun making and spending time at the lake home in northern Minnesota.
David died on Monday, May 3, 2010, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton. He was 70 years old.
Those left to honor David’s memory include his wife, Carol of Lambs Grove; his daughters, Debbie (Jeff) Miller of Lambs Grove and Christy (Matt) Wlodek of Rockford, Ill.; his four grandchildren, Kelsey, Lauren and Josh Miller and Macee Whisenand; and step-grandchildren, Taylor and Dylan Wlodek.
The family will greet friends Friday, May 7, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton. A prayer service will begin at 7 p.m. Memorials may be designated to Buck Crik Muzzle Loading Club or Pheasants Forever and may be left at the funeral home.
