Jay Dee Thompson, 48, of Smithville, Mo., formerly of Colfax, died Friday, April, 30, 2010, at the Kansas City Hospice House.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Colfax, with visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will be at McKeever Cemetery in Colfax.

He was born on September 23, 1961 to Raymond LeRoy and Marilyn Joyce (Iske) Thompson in Newton, Iowa. Jay graduated from Colfax High School in 1980 where he was active in FFA and sports. He graduated from Ellsworth Community College and then finished his Bachelors Degree in Ag Business from Northeast Missouri State in Kirksville, MO.
On February 14, 1986 he was united in marriage to Jeri Jean McAdoo. After their marriage they lived in Clinton WI, Springfield, IL, St. Charles, MO, and in 1995 they moved to Smithville where they made their home.
Jay worked in the retail and wholesale departments for numerous Ag companies. In 2005, Jay started the ShowMe Trader in partnership with Doug Ward. Jay owned and operated the ShowMe Trader until his death.
He enjoyed spending time with his children, teaching and participating in their activities.
Jay was preceded in death by his father, Raymond.
He is survived by his wife, Jeri, children, Lauren and fiancé Bryan Baker, Kristen and Travis; mother, Marilyn Thompson, Pleasant Hill, IA; brother, Rusty Thompson, Pleasant Hill, IA; numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
