Charles L. Davidson, 82, of Newton died Monday, March 29, 2010, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 1, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home with Chaplain Merle Smith officiating. The family will greet friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, April 1, at the funeral home. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery. Memorials in Charles’s name may be left at the funeral home.
The son of Chester and Orpha (Anderson) Davidson, Charles was born Dec. 1, 1927, in Mariposa Township in Jasper County. Charles was a graduate of Newton Senior High School in 1947. On Sept. 3, 1949, he was united in marriage to Helen Luella Jackson in Newton, Iowa.
A lifelong resident of Newton, Charles was a Lathe Operator for the Parsons Company in Newton until 1974. He then held the same position at Midwest Manufacturing in Kellogg for 10 years, retiring in 1984. He enjoyed riding motorcycles and made an annual trip to Colorado. He was a member of the UAW Local 997, and he liked to bow hunt, fish, work on cars and do woodworking and building.
Survivors include a daughter, Sharon (Kent) Quinn of Clive, Iowa; a son, Richard (Marti) Davidson of Newton; two grandsons, Derrick Vance of Des Moines, Iowa, and Charlie Davidson of Newton; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Andrew and Juanita Jackson; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Helen, in 2009; and his nine siblings, Cecil, Carl, Thelma, Walter, Lena, Ed, Homer, Hubert and Janet.
