Paul A. Kasper, 88, of Tiffin, Iowa, formerly of Newton, died Wednesday, March 24, 2010, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.
A funeral mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 30, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Newton with Father William Reynolds and Deacon Dan Goetz officiating. The family will greet friends from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Monday, March 29, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home. A vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Memorials to Iowa City Hospice may be left at the funeral home.
The son of Steve and Mary Kasper, Paul was born Aug. 27, 1921, in Melrose, Iowa. He grew up in the Melrose/Georgetown area and graduated from Georgetown High School. In 1949, Paul was united in marriage to Georgia Morrissey at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Newton.
After he and Georgia were married, they made their home in rural Newton. In 2008, he moved to Tiffin to live with his daughter, Luann, and then in 2009 he moved to the Pleasantview Care Center in Kalona, Iowa.
Paul loved farming and got great satisfaction from watching what he planted be harvested. He enjoyed trips to his daughter Paula’s cabin in northern Minnesota to be with his daughters and grandchildren. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and the Izaak Walton League.
Paul was a lifelong farmer, farming northwest of Newton. He retired in the mid 1980s.
Survivors include two daughters, Paula (Jim) Lundahl of Iowa City and Luann Jenkins of Tiffin; two grandchildren, Tessa and Chance Burns of Tiffin; a sister, Maxine Voss of North English, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Georgia, in 1991; and eight brothers and sisters, John, Steve, George, Joe, Mike, Mary and two in infancy.
