E. Shiffler, Colfax, Dies
COLFAX, IA – Ellis Shiffler, 74-year-old Colfax carpenter, died at his home here this morning at 7 o’clock following a critical two-week illness of heart ailment, from which he had been suffering for three years.
Shiffler gave up farming to become a carpenter and cabinet maker in Colfax and was well-known in the community. He was a former member of the Masonic lodge, owned two farms and held a half-interest in the farm north of Colfax where he was born.
Pioneer Parents
He was born March 10, 1846, the son of pioneer parents who settled on a farm north of here. In his earlier years he was a farmer, but in 1919 he came to Colfax to begin his carpenter business.
He is survived by his widow, the former Laura Scarbrough and five children.
Survivors
Sons and daughters surviving are Russell of Mitchellville, Curtis of Colfax and Wayne of Fargo, N.D. and Mrs. Carroll Acton and Mrs. Rose Frasher, both of Colfax. Russell, Curtis and Wayne are children of a first marriage. Their mother, the former Bessie Hamilton, died in July of 1908. A number of grandchildren also survive.
Funeral arrangements had not been completed late this morning.
