Rose Ann (Emerson) McNeer, 82, of Newton died Sunday, March 21, 2010, at the Hospice of Jasper County’s Monarch Wing in Newton.
A memorial mass will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 25, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1115 S. Eighth Ave. E. in Newton, with Father William Reynolds officiating and Deacon Dan Goetz assisting. The family will greet friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church. A private family burial was held Monday, March 22, at Newton Union Cemetery in Newton. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Hospice of Jasper County may be left at the church the morning of the service. Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.
The daughter of Derry J. and Cepha (Kirsch) Emerson, Rose was born Aug. 29, 1927, in Winterset, Iowa. She was a graduate of Martensdale High School in 1946 in Martensdale, Iowa. On Oct. 21, 1946, Rose was united in marriage to Robert J. McNeer.
Rose owned and operated McNeer Greenhouse with her husband, Bob, for many years. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Newton and the Red Hat Society. Rose loved gardening, plants and being outdoors in nature. She was a gentle and caring woman. Rose had been a resident of Newton since 1946 and a resident of Careage of Newton for the last five years.
Survivors include her husband, Robert J. McNeer of Newton; a daughter, Linda (Scott) Miller of Tierra Verde, Fla.; a son, Joseph McNeer of Toronto, Canada; three grandchildren, Christy Annis, Robert Annis and David Annis; a sister, Marjorie (Emerson) Singer of Wilson, N.C.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Paul Emerson; and two sisters, Mary Hildebrand and Carroll Warhola.
