Kristine Buckley, 89, of Newton, formerly of Monroe, died Saturday, March 20, 2010, in the Monarch Wing at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.
A funeral service for Mrs. Buckley will be on Tuesday, March 23, 2010, at Coburn Funeral Home of Monroe at 11 a.m. with burial following at Silent City Cemetery. Visitation will be prior to the service from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to Hospice of Jasper County, and online condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com.
The daughter of Jens H. and Dora (Brummel) Jensen, Bertha Kristine Jensen was born on Dec. 19, 1920, in Monroe. On Dec. 19, 1943, Kristine was united in marriage with Ralph Buckley in Otley. Kristine worked as a devoted homemaker for her family, but she also spent time sorting corn for Pfister Seed Company in Monroe and sewed at sewing factories in Pella and Chariton. Kristine loved gardening, sewing and canning foods.
Those left to honor Kristine’s memory are her children, Linda Modlin and her husband, Dal, of Newton, Doris Anderson and her husband, Ed, of Des Moines, Susan Sacco and her husband, Gene, of Centerville and Karen Carnahan and her husband, Steve, of Austin, Texas; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.
Kristine was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ralph Buckley; son, Ronald Buckley; grandchildren, Teri Buckley and Kenneth Anderson; and one sister, Jean VanderVelden.
