Roy E. “Geno” Long II, 32, of Newton died Sunday, March 14, 2010, at his home in Newton.
A memorial service will be planned for 10 a.m. Saturday, March 20, 2010, at the Community Heights Alliance Church, 2500 S. 13th Ave. E. in Newton, with Pastor Cory Stout officiating. The family will greet friends immediately following the memorial service with a light lunch at the church. Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given in Geno’s name to be used for his three children, Laketon, Drake and Isabella. Memorials may be left at the funeral home or at the church on the morning of the service.
The son of Roy Long and Bea O’dell, Geno was born Jan. 10, 1978, in Shreveport, La. On April 19, 2008, he was united in marriage to Deserae D. Cooper in Anna Maria Island, Fla.
Geno worked several years as a production worker at Realm in Newton. He attended the Community Heights Alliance Church in Newton. Geno loved coaching, fishing, hunting, playing basketball and mushroom hunting. He had been a resident of Newton for 13 years.
Survivors include his wife, Deserae of Newton; a daughter, Isabella Long of Newton; two sons, Laketon and Drake Long, both of Newton; his mother, Bea O’dell of Kansas City, Mo.; his father, Roy Long of Richmond, Mo.; a sister, Kayla Lane of Kansas City, Mo.; and two brothers, Chris Kirkland of Missouri and Billy Kirkland of Kansas City, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.
