Elaina D. Machin, 33, of Newton, Iowa, died Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2010, at her home in Newton.
A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 28, 2010, at the First United Methodist Church in Newton with the Rev. Gary Marzolf officiating. The family will greet friends from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Elaina’s name to be used for 4-H awards or scholarships may be left at the funeral home or the church the day of the service.
The daughter of Lloyd and Dianna (McGinley) Machin, Elaina was born April 28, 1976, in Grinnell, Iowa. She graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1994.
Elaina was the payroll technician at Grinnell College and also worked on weekends at the Iowa Speedway in ticket sales. She previously had worked in customer service and payroll for the Maytag Company. She also had a side job making decorated sugar cookies that she was famous for. She delivered and sent them all over.
Elaina was a longtime member and leader for 4-H. She was a member of the Jolly Workers, Sr. 4-H Club, County Council and the Youth Committee. She also was currently the co-leader of the Lynn Grove Hustlers.
Elaina’s nieces and nephews were her life, and she did many activities with them. She also loved country music and going to concerts, where she met many new friends. She would then travel the country to see those friends.
She was a lifelong resident of Newton.
Survivors include her parents, Lloyd and Dianna Machin of Newton; two brothers, Eric (Christina) Machin of Newton and Edward (Meggan) Machin of Newton; her nieces and nephews, Tyler, Andrew, and Alyssa and Ethan and Ella; her paternal grandfather, Walter Machin of Newton; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandmother, Beula Machin, and her maternal grandparents, Earnest and Betty McGinley.
