Funeral of Late James Shelton Held Yesterday

Deceased was Highly Respected Citizen-Long Sickness

James Lockridge Shelton was born in Logan County, Ills., on February 7th, 1850, and died at his home in Galesburg, Iowa, May 8th, 1914, aged 64 years, 3 months and 1 day. He came to Iowa with his parents when but a boy of about four years of age and resided in this immediate vicinity until his death. He was married to Miss Anna C. Jeckle January 9th, 1870. To this union were born five children-two sons and three daughters-Peter, Margaret and Willie, deceased. There are left to mourn his loss, a wife, two daughters and four brothers, all of whom were present, but one brother. The only near relative besides his family living is his uncle, James Wilson of Reasnor, Ia. After the death of Willie, the youngest son, and the marriage of Peter, the eldest son, the parents took Scott Hodges, a boy of ten years to raise, who made his home with them until his marriage four years ago.

Brother Shelley united with the Methodist Church when a small boy. At his marriage in 1870, with his wife united with the Christian Church at Sand ridge, Iowa. On Feb. 7, 1897, he united with the Galesburg congregation where his membership still remains in good standing.

Then his entire life was spent under Christian influence.

Mr. Shelton was a good man not only kind and considerate to his family, but to all who knew him. He will be greatly missed by his wife and daughter, Daisy, who are the only ones at home.

The funeral services were held in the Galesburg Christian Church Sunday morning at 11 o’clock and the interment made in the German Cemetery where two of the children are at rest. Rev. Kerns of Des Moines preached the funeral sermon. ~ Newspaper unknown.
