Dennis D. Stewart, 74, of Newton died on Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2010, at the Hospice of Jasper County’s Monarch Wing at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.
A memorial mass will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 22, 2010, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1115 S. Eighth Ave. E. in Newton. The family will greet friends from 10 a.m. Friday until the time of the memorial mass at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials in Dennis’ name. Memorials may be left at the church on the morning of the service or at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth; two daughters, Margaret (Richard) Mortensen of Grinnell and Kathy Stewart of Newton; three sons, Mark (Candy) Stewart of Newton, Chris (Patty) Stewart of Knoxville and Tim (Deb) Stewart of Forest, Va.; 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Lowell (Emmy) Stewart of Wichita, Kan., and Jim Stewart of Moline, Ill.
Arrangements are being handled by the Wallace Family Funeral Home & Crematory in Newton.

Dennis D. Stewart was born February 11, 1935. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd E. and Laura (Carson) Stewart.
Dennis was a production worker, as a painter and metal finisher at the Maytag Company for 34 years, retiring in 1986.
Dennis was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and the Knights of Columbus. Dennis’ passion in life was gardening, he loved to go fishing and camping, he also enjoyed being with his family. Dennis also served his country in the Iowa Army National Guard.
