Margaret Horn Gahan, 99, passed away at her residence on Jan. 15, 2010.
She was born on March 26, 1910, in Newton, Iowa to Alan Ray and Eva Ashley Horn. She moved to Washington, D.C., when she was 2 years old with her parents. She lived there until her marriage to James B. Gahan in 1937. She lived in Sanford and Orlando, Fla., until moving to Gainesville in 1964. She and her husband lived a year in Mexico and three years in Cairo, Egypt, where he was working for the USDA.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Gainesville, Agriculture Woman’s Club, Camellia Society of America and had been a member of the P.E.O. for 74 years, where she was a member of Chapter AP. She was also a lifetime member of the Shands AGH Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James B. Gahan. She is survived by cousins in Iowa and Minnesota and a host of friends and her caretaker companion of many years, Pamela Pamphile-West.
A visitation was on Monday at Forest Meadows Funeral Home, 725 NW 23rd Ave. A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. today, Jan. 19, 2010, at First Presbyterian Church, 300 SW Second Ave. with the Rev. Robert Shettler officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Haven Hospice, 4200 NW 90th Blvd., Gainesville, FL 32606; First Presbyterian Church, 300 SW Second Ave, Gainesville, FL 32601; or to the Univ. of FL Foundation Inc., Gahan Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 14425, Gainesville, FL 32604.
