Shahan, Cora May ‘Mary’ Jones – 1856-1936

LYNNVILLE, IA. – Cora May Jones was born in Palmyra, Maine, March 20, 1856 and died Dec. 14, 1939, aged eighty-three years.
She was married to Sylvanus Shahan in Newton, Ia., in 1874. Six children were born to them, Alma, Lulu, Daisy, Leonidas, Gertrude and Herman. Her entire married life was spent in Lynnville, where she was a member of the M. E. church.
Her husband and three children preceded her in death, leaving Mrs. Daisy Sinnett of Oakland, Cal., Leonidas Shahan, Winfield, Ia., and Gertrude Justice of New Sharon, Ia.
Her father and mother died in her childhood and she was given a home with a Quaker family named Gifford, who later moved to Iowa.
Funeral services were held from her home Friday, Dec. 15, 1939, at two o’clock with Rev. Ermin Perlaho in charge. The music was furnished by Mrs. Will Allee and Mrs. Harvey Gause.
Pallbearers were L. T. Gause, Charlie Elscott, Charlie Russell, Howard Macy, Cal Trease and Homer Jay. Burial was in the family lot in the Woodland cemetery.
Those attending from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. Lon Shahan of Winfield, Dr. and Mrs. Paul Justice and Charlene of New Sharon, Mr. and Mrs. Will Cunningham and Mrs. Hermoine Johnson of Newton, Mrs. George Shaffer, Mrs. Oscar Shaffer, Mrs. Raleigh Shaffer and Mrs. Sarah Bullick all of Marshalltown.
