COLFAX, IA – Lela Maria Rodgers, one of a family of seven brothers and sisters was born to Robert and Harriet Rodgers in Amherst, Cumberland county, Nova Scotia, Jan. 15, 1873 and passed from this life at the home of her sister, Gertrude at Oceanside, Calif., Wednesday morning, Dec. 6, 1939. The immediate cause of her death was a heart attack.
When about ten years of age she came with her parents from Nova Scotia and found a home in Pennsylvania and in 1890 came to What Cheer, Ia.
She was united in marriage with Thomas Ryan at La Crosse, Wis., in the year 1903, and then came to Colfax where she resided until about five years before her husband’s death in 1927 when they made their home in Madrid, Ia.
Since Mr. Ryan’s death she made her home in Colfax with the exception of time spent with her relatives in California and other places. Had it not been for the serious illness of her sister she would have returned to Colfax about a year ago. Her return this time means that she will have found a last resting place amidst relatives and friends of her youth. There were no children born to this union.
One of her brothers, Oran, passed away in 1935. Those brothers and sisters surviving are Gerald, Charles and Mrs. Gertrude Robertson of California, Mrs. R. B. Parsons of Washington and C. H. Rodgers of Colfax.
Mrs. Ryan was a member of the American Legion auxiliary.
Music was provided by Mrs. Earl Plummer, Mrs. George Robison, Chester and Maynard Binkerd with Mrs. George Rinker accompanist.
Mrs. Ralph Woods, Mrs. Elmer Bell, and Mrs. Herbert Kline had charge of the flowers.
Pallbearers were William Bridie, V. K. Robison, Earl Bell, Roy Baker, Charles Tripp and Russell Baker.
Interment was in Colfax cemetery.
