William “Bill” Lynn Johnston, 65, passed Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009, in Chattanooga, Tenn. Graveside service and internment were at Chattanooga Nation Cemetery with full military honors Monday, Jan. 4, 2010.
Bill was born in Prairie City, graduated from Altoona High School and was a 10-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving in Vietnam War. He owned a “drive-in” restaurant in Prairie City in early 70s, and he worked 27 years for Pizza Hut in Iowa, California and Chattanooga. In recent years, Bill owned Jasper BBQ in Jasper, Tenn. He loved to play golf, cook and spending time with his grandchildren.
Bill was preceded in death by his father, Basil and Martha Johnston of Prairie City; his mother, Arlene and E.A. “Brownie” Showalter of Newton; and a brother, Russell Showalter.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy Johnston; his children, Josh Cannon and Zach and Colleen Fitz-Gerald; his grandchildren, Calli and Rylee Schneider; and six brothers and two sisters, Gary Johnston of Prairie City, Barbara Johnston Smith of Runnells, John, Jay, Rich and Bob Johnston, Bruce (Karen) Showalter and Marsha George, all of Newton, and Ken (Sandy) Showalter of Florida.
