Frederick C. Andreas

Whose Death Occurred on Saturday Morning March 18, 1911

Frederick C. Andreas was born at Schoenfelt, in the province of Pomerania, Germany, April 1, 1843, and died at his home in Elk Creek Township, Jasper County, Iowa, Saturday morning at 8:45 o’clock, March 18, 1911, having reached the age of 67 years, 11 months and 18 days.

Departed was one of the pioneers of Jasper County. For many years he was identified with the political history of the county, but was never allowed his name to be presented for anything but township offices and for a number of years he has been present of the Bank of Sully.

His parents came to this country in 1856, when the subject of this brief sketch was a mere boy. He was a mere boy. He has grown up with his country and for the country, and it may also be added, with the people and for the people. Everybody knew Fred Andreas and none knew him but to love him. His name is written indelibly upon the pages of Jasper County’s history.

The man who never knew what sickness was, and who, according to our thoughts had many years of usefulness before him, began to fail early in the fall and although his condition was not considered serious he continued to fail until the end came. Peacefully and quietly he passed away early Saturday morning, without even having complained of pain, satisfied with his early lot and ready and glad to obey the Master’s summons.

Our departed friend was born and raised in the Lutheran Church, of which he has always been a consistent and faithful member. In this respect he has lived out his confirmation motto, “be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee the crown of life.” Rev. 2. 10. The name of Fred Andreas will not be forgotten as long as there is a Lutheran church at Elk Creek.

The family has lost a good husband and kind father, the community has lost a true friend and our church is mourning the loss of t one of its most loyal members. May he rest in peace.

Our departed friend was united in marriage to Wilhelmina Castorf, January 11, 1868. They were married fourty-three years. To this long and happy union were born ten children, seven girls and three boys, all of whom are living: Mrs. Fred Rohrdanz, Mrs. W. J. Kling, Mrs. Fred Sherman, Mrs. Chas. Schnell, Fred, Mrs. Albert Talbot and Mrs. Steele Watts. There still remain at home, Will, Frank and Stella. Besides the family he leaves three sisters to mourn him.

The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Oltmann at the Lutheran church, on Tuesday, March 21, a large concourse of friends and old neighbors being present. The remains were laid to rest in the German cemetery, nearby.

Mrs. Andreas and family desire, through the Record, to convey their sincere thanks to the neighbors whose sympathy and services were so kindly rendered in the time of bereavement, and also for the many beautiful floral tributes which came as a silent expression of love and sympathy. ~ Newspaper unknown.
