George Acklin

Funeral services for George W. Acklin, who died Saturday evening at his home, were held at the Crumpacker Funeral home in Monroe Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock with interment following at the Monroe cemetery.

Mr. Acklin, who would have celebrated his 80th birthday Wednesday, died following a short illness resulting from complications of his advanced age.

The deceased was born April 3, 1860 near Hillsboro, Ohio, coming to Iowa at the age of eight years and residing in Jasper county since that time. He made his home in Monroe until four years ago when he and his wife came to Newton.

He and Hester Powell were united in marriage on March 31, 1883 and of the five children born to this union, two died in infancy.

In addition to his widow, surviving relatives are three children, Dave of Mountain View, Mo; Ben of Newton; and Mrs. Ethel Koons of Des Moines; two brothers, seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
