Funeral services for Frank Byers, 72, who died Tuesday morning following a series of heart attacks were held Thursday morning at the Sacred Heart Church at 10 o'clock. Burial was in the Newton Union cemetery.

Mr. Byers was born at Woodsfield, O., Feb. 14, 1868, moving to Iowa in 1900 and to Newton in 1909. He was a foreman at the Maytag company for 30 years and was head of department 21 at the time of his retirement four years ago.

In 1894 he was united in marriage to Emma Caroline Dougherty at Woodsfield, O., who preceded him in death about six months ago.

Surviving relatives are four children, Hugh, Andrew and Clara Byers and Mrs. Harry Eke, a sister, Mrs. Lucinda Early of Woodsfield, O., a brother, James of Atlantic and six grandchildren.

Mr. Byers recently took out papers as candidate for nomination on the republican ticket for Newton township constable.
