W. Henning Dies; Rites on Tuesday
Succumbs Seven Weeks After Death of His Brother; Brick Makers
William H. Henning, 78, Newton resident, nearly all his life, died at three o’clock Saturday afternoon at Skiff Memorial hospital of virus infection. He had been ill for two weeks.
Mr. Henning’s brother, Fred, with whom he had lived and operated a brickyard here, died only seven weeks ago. Neither of the brothers married and they maintained their bachelors’ home together.
Funeral services will be held at 3:30 o’clock Tuesday afternoon, at the Johnson-Murdoch Funeral Chapel. Rev. E. A. Briggs, pastor of the First Methodist church, will officiate. Burial will be at Newton Union cemetery.
William H. Henning, Jr., was the son of William and Bertha Koethe Henning. He was born Jan. 26, 1871, at Freeport, Ill., but came to Newton from Illinois as a child. He had lived here since.
His survivors include one sister, Mrs. Charles O. Marshall of Newton, three nieces, Mrs. Glenn Bruce, Mrs. John Madin and Miss Maurine Marshall, all of Newton and two nephews, Dr. C. E. Stofflet of Lowden and William Marshall of Newton.
Marion Welle will be soloist at the rites tomorrow. He will sing “Abide With Me” and “Beautiful Isle of Somewhere.” Mrs. R. L. Jackson will be organist.
Pallbearers will be Allan McAllister, Joe Arbs, Tim Campbell, Jr., Harry C. Doane, Ben Beckham and Charles Hesselschwerdt. On the flower committee are Mrs. Ben Beckham and Mrs. Joe Arbs.
