Martin J. “Marty” Tierney, 77, of Newton died on Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2009, at his home.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 21, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home at 1115 E. 19th St. N., with Chaplain Merle Smith of Skiff Medical Center of Newton officiating. The family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. today, Aug. 20, at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Union Cemetery in Newton.
Memorials to Hospice of Jasper County may be left at the funeral home.
Marty was born on May 17, 1932, in Monroe County. Marty graduated from Albia High School in Albia in 1950. He had lived in Newton since 1950. He was united in marriage with Marilyn A. Claver on Oct. 19, 1957, in Lovilla.
Marty was a production worker for 42 years at the Maytag Company in Newton, retiring in 1992. Marty served his country in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. He was stationed in Seoul, South Korea.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn of Newton and his son, Craig (Peggy) Tierney of Kellogg.
