STEWARTVILLE, Minn. — Marjorie Helen Gardner, 96, of Stewartville, Minn., died Saturday, Aug. 8, 2009, at the Stewartville Care Center.
Services will be on Wednesday, Aug. 12, at 11 a.m. at the First Untied Methodist Church in Colfax, with burial following at the Colfax Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday, from 10 a.m. until service time.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Colfax United Methodist Church, Stewartville Untied Methodist Church or the Stewartville Public Library and online condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com.
The daughter of Al and Bessie (Dunlap) Gifford, Marjorie was born on Sept. 29, 1912, in rural Jasper County. Marjorie grew up in the Mingo-Farrar area. She graduated from Mingo High School in 1930, and attended Normal Training. On Sept. 29, 1929, she was united in marriage to David Gardner in Corydon.
She was a housewife and mother while living on the farm southwest of Mingo. She and Dave later moved to Colfax where they owned and operated the Gardner Custodial Home. Following this she worked at Jasper County Home Health Service. In 2001, she moved to Stewartville, Minn., to be close to her family. She was a member of the Colfax United Methodist Church and a member of the United Methodist Women. For many years, Marjorie served as secretary for the Colfax Chamber of Commerce. She was an avid reader and especially enjoyed being with her family.
Those left to honor her memory are her children, Janet (John) Hinkebein of St. Louis, Mo., Dorothy (Richard) Womeldorff of Stewartville, Minn.; a daughter-in-law, Deb Gardner of Harlan; 14 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Preceding Margorie in death were her parents; her husband in 1971; two sons, Richard and Raymond; and two sisters.
