August Henning Lifelong Newton Resident, Dies
August Frederick Henning, Jr., 72, of 920 W. Third St. S., a lifelong resident of Newton, died Monday at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the First Lutheran Church.
The Rev. Walter Sabins, pastor of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, will conduct the services. Burial will be in Newton Union Cemetery.
Johnson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Henning is survived by his wife, Pansy, three daughters, Mrs. Garold (Audrey) Fullmer of Newton; Mrs. Paul F. (Maxine) Kelly of Des Moines and Mrs. S. O. (Freda) Thorlaksson Jr. of McArthur, Calif.; five grandchildren and a great grandchild.
He is also survived by six brothers, Fred of Melbourne, Edward of Rock Island, Ill., Ted of Colfax, Walter of Kellogg, Albert of Newton and Carl of Kellogg; and two sisters, Emma Reynolds of Rock Island, Ill., and Elsie Hasselbrink of Grinnell.
He was a member of the First Lutheran Church, Knights of Pythias, 25-year Club of the Maytag Co., and Woodmen of the World.
The son of August and Fredericka Saak Henning, he was born July 27, 1890 in Newton. He was educated in Newton schools.
He was married March 6, 1912 in Newton to Pansy Brooks.
Mr. Henning was an employee of the Maytag Co. for 45 ½ years.
