Elsie Hasselbrink dies early today; services Friday
NEWTON – Mrs. Albert L. (Elsie F.) Hasselbrink, 98, of 1902 N. 2nd Ave. E. a resident of Newton since 1948 and a resident of rural Laurel for 33 years, died early today at the Heritage Manor Care Center.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Wallace Funeral Home. Dr. Richard Bentzinger, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Center Friends Cemetery, northeast of Newton.
Friends may call at the Wallace Funeral home after 9 a.m. Thursday.
Survivors are her husband; a brother, Burl Hammer of Newton; a sister, Mrs. Frank (Mabel) Hill of Newton; and many nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Dyer Hammer, and a sister, Ora Anderson.
Mrs. Hasselbrink was a member of the First United Methodist Church, 4-0 Class, Garden Club, ODO Ladies Club, all of Newton, and the Homemakers 7 Club.
She was a former member of the Amboy Grange and a seventh degree member of the National Grange.
Mrs. Hasselbrink was a former Jasper County school teacher.
The daughter of Charles B. and Anna Shill Hammer, she was born June 28, 1895 in Newton and was graduated in 1914 from Newton Community High School.
She was married March 24, 1915 in Kellogg.
Memorials to the First United Methodist Church will be accepted.
Visitation with the family will be at the funeral home at 7 p.m. Thursday.
