Sevenbergen, William B. Sr. – 1926-2009

Funeral services for William will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, 2009, at the First Baptist Church in Newton. The Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton has been entrusted with the arrangements. A visitation with the family will be at 6 to 8 p.m.today, Wednesday, at the funeral home.
Memorials to First Baptist Church or Hospice of Jasper County are being accepted.
William B. Sevenbergen Sr., 83, the son of Arnold M. and Winnifred E. (Burch) Sevenbergen, was born March 11, 1926, in Montezuma. He attended school near Montezuma.
On July 6, 1945, William was united in marriage with Mildred M. Roop in Iowa City. William and Mildred moved to the Newton area in 1953. He was employed as a steam press operator by the Maytag Company on Sept. 2, 1952, retiring on Oct. 1, 1987. William served his country during World War II, with the US Navy.
Mildred preceded him in death on Dec. 16, 1994.
He was devoted to his family, was a member of the First Baptist Church and enjoyed being part of the Jasper County Senior Citizens and loved maintaining and rebuilding cars. On Jan. 18, 1997, William was united in marriage with Lois Perkins.
William died on Monday morning, Aug. 3, 2009, in the Monarch Wing at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mildred; and a daughter-in-law, Kristin A.Sevenbergern; two brothers, Robert Sevenbergen in 2001 and Keith Sevenbergen in 2009.
Those left to honor William’s memory include wife Lois of Newton; sons Robert E. (Joyce) Sevenbergen of Ames, William B. (Suzanne) Sevenbergen Jr. of Des Moines, Keith A. (Kathy) Sevenbergen of Newton, Richard D. (Pamela) Sevenbergen of Coon Rapids, Minn., and Roger D. (Michelle) Sevenbergen of Norton, Ohio; his daughter, Susan K. (Tim W.) White of Newton; his 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Shirley (Floyd) Choat of Bakersfield, Calif., and Mary Butler of Newton; and his many friends.
