I. Arlene (Blakely) Pfander, 89, of Newton died on Sunday, July 26, 2009, at Careage of Newton in Newton.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 30, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with Chaplain Merle Smith of Skiff Medical Center in Newton officiating. The family will greet friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in the Newton Union Cemetery in Newton.
Memorials to Hospice of Jasper County or to Iowa Hospice may be left at the funeral home.
The daughter of Thel and Garney (Curtis) Blakely, Arlene was born on Aug. 13, 1919, in Osceola. Arlene was a graduate of Osceola High School in Osceola. She has been a resident of Newton since 1957. On Nov. 22, 1939, she was united in marriage to William L. “Bill” Pfander in Osceola.
Arlene was a production worker in the gift room for the Vernon Company in Newton. She worked from 1958 until retiring in 1981. She loved being with her family, traveling with her husband, Bill and just being with people.
Survivors include a son, Larry (Nancy) Pfander of Newton; a daughter, Pam (Richard) Reed of Colfax; five grandchildren, Stephen (Shelly) Pfander, Jackie (Curt) Cass, Rich (Lynn) Reed, Amy Thomas and Lisa (Bob) Manley; 15 great-grandchildren, Colten, Jayden, Jensen, Jordan, Jannae, Ryan, Drew, Morgan, Taylea, Mackenzie, Kris, Shannon, Sean, Jace and Miah; and one great-great-grandson, Kelton.
Arlene was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill on Jan. 9, 2009; grandson, Bob Pfander in 2007; and two brothers, Charles and Harry Blakely.
