Eva E. Henning, 83, Kellogg, died Friday morning at Grinnell Regional Hospital of heart failure.
Memorial services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Robert Hinshaw, pastor at Ashton Chapel in rural Mingo, presiding. Burial will be held at Newton Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Monday at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home. The family will be present from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Memorials may be made out in Mrs. Henning’s name.
Mrs. Henning was born March 10, 1917 in Orient, Iowa to Sylvester and Lula Gilbert Reynolds. She attended Newton High School and worked as a press operator for Midwest Manufacturing in Kellogg.
She married Carl J. Henning on March 31, 1933 in Newton and spent most of her life in Kellogg. She was a longtime past president of the union at Midwest Manufacturing and was the first and only woman mayor of Kellogg.
Survivors include two sons, Jerry of Grinnell, and Virgil of Madison, Wis.; four daughters, Edith of Grinnell, Judy Norton of Kellogg, Marcia White of Grinnell, and Ruth Henning of Kellogg; a daughter-in-law, Janice Henning of Killduff; a sister, Janice Pruitt of Collierville, Tenn.; three brothers: Junior Reynolds, Frank Reynolds and Butch Reynolds, all of Newton; 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, a son, Carl, two granddaughters and a daughter-in-law.
