Brad Bates, 43, of Newton passed away July 11, 2009, at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City.
A graveside service will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 18, at the Union Cemetery in Newton.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in the family’s name.
Friends may give condolences or sign the online guest book at hollandcoblefuneralhome.com. Holland-Coble Funeral Home in Montezuma is in charge of arrangements.
Bradley Eldon Bates, son of Robert and Wanda (Sturtz) Bates was born on May 30, 1966, in Newton. He attended Newton Senior High School. Brad lived in the Des Moines and Newton areas most of his life.
Brad held various jobs, working mostly as a mechanic. He was an avid NASCAR fan. He enjoyed roller skating, listening to music, watching television and playing video games. Brad had a passion for muscle cars, especially his 1971 Chevrolet Nova.
Brad is survived by his mother, Wanda Bates of Newton; two sisters, Wendy (Joel) Kiess of Des Moines and Darcy (Todd Tool) of Newton; a brother, Dennis (Cindy) Bates of Grinnell; and several nieces and nephews, Natalie (Brent), Dylan and Kohen Holland of Montezuma, Nathan (Heather) and Ethan Bates of Columbia, Mo., Kaley and Zachary Kruse of Newton, Jon Osborn of Grinnell, Crystal (Roger), Rylee and Adelyn Belcher of Grinnell and Amaris Bates of Grinnell.
Brad was preceded in death by his father, Robert Bates in 2008 and two brothers, Ronald Bates in 2008 and Patrick Bates in infancy.
