Robert V. Youngkin, 83, of Newton died on Monday, June 29, 2009, at the Hospice of Jasper County’s Monarch Wing in Newton.
Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, July 2, at Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with Chaplain Merle Smith of Skiff Medical Center officiating. There will be a private family burial at Woodland Cemetery in Lynnville.
Memorials may be left in Robert’s name to Hospice of Jasper County.
Born to Hallie E. and Elva Beryl (Sparks) Youngkin, Robert was born on Jan. 14, 1926, on the family farm outside of Lynnville. He grew up on the family farm. He lived and farmed between Kellogg and Killduff. Robert was united in marriage to Ruth E. Snook on April 28, 1946, in Killduff.
A graduate of Kellogg High School, Robert was a farmer. He also worked in the commercial printing department at the Newton Daily News and as a security guard at Maytag. Robert enjoyed fishing, boating, gardening, mowing yards, cleaning driveways and helping with his son’s crops. He also enjoyed dancing and spending time with his grandkids.
Survivors include three sons, Dennis (Sara) Youngkin of Montezuma, Hal (LuAnne) Youngkin of Irwin and Larry Youngkin of North Miami Beach, Fla.; one daughter, Shari (Alan) Good of Newton; seven grandchildren, Karla Youngkin, Matthew Youngkin, Chris Youngkin, Keri Youngkin, Zach Good, Seth Good and Holly Good; one great-granddaughter, Peyton Youngkin; two sisters, Maxine (Harry) Atwood of Newton and Nadine Anderson of Healdsburg, Calif.; one brother, Earl Youngkin of Mesa, Ariz.; one brother-in-law, Elmer Snook of Florida; and longtime family friend, Irene Anderson of Grinnell.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ruth; grandson, Jeremy Youngkin; granddaughter, Megan Youngkin; brothers Donald and Bruce; sister, Bonnie Williams; brothers-in-law Ray Anderson, Harry Atwood and Norman Williams; and sister-in-laws Betty Snook and Helen Youngkin.
