Ronald L. Foreman, 65, of Newton died Sunday, June 28, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, July 3, at the First United Methodist Church, 210 N. Second Ave. E. in Newton, with the Rev. Gary Marzolf officiating. The family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton.
Memorials to the donor’s choice may be left at the funeral home or at the church on the day of the service.
The son of Virgil F. and Ruth H. (Gustaffson) Foreman, Ron was born March 31, 1944, in Des Moines, Iowa. On Dec. 3, 1967, he was united in marriage to Jacqueline A. “Jackie” Kerr in Newton, Iowa. Ron had lived in Newton since 1968, and he also had lived in Baxter and Marshalltown.
Ron was a graduate of Baxter High School in 1963. He had also graduated from the Iowa Police Academy and the FBI National Academy. He was a police officer with the Newton Police Department for 20 years, and he was a cabinet maker for 30 years. Ron also served as a councilman on the Newton City Council for 13 years.
Ron was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Iowa Police Officers Association and the FBI National Academy. He served his country in the U. S. Navy during the Vietnam War, and he enjoyed coffee times where he was able to talk to people. Ron loved to be with and do things for his children and grandchildren.
Ron is survived by his wife, Jackie of Newton; three sons, Jeffrey S. Foreman of Bristol, England, Frederick L. (Shannon) Foreman of Grinnell and Wm. David Foreman of Kansas City, Mo.; a daughter, Colette R. (Jim) Klier of Newton; nine grandchildren, Rebecca Foreman, Siobhan Foreman, James Foreman, Stephanie R. Klier, James B. Klier, Gabrielle M. Foreman, Skyler D. Foreman, Ciera Foreman and Lily Foreman; two brothers, Darrell (Nancy) Foreman of Baxter and his twin brother, Arnold Foreman of Newton; a sister, Darlene (Bill) Clifton of Chandler, Ariz.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
