PUEBLO, Colo. — Funeral services for Howard Van Arkel, 66, of Pueblo, Colo., formerly of Prairie City, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 11, at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton.
Friends of Howard Van Arkel may call at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home after 1 p.m. Thursday. The family will greet friends from 1 p.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated in Howard’s name to the Sangre De Cristo Hospice of Pueblo, Colo., and may be left at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home.

Howard Fletcher Van Arkel, 66, was born in Montezuma, Iowa, on August 15, 1942, the son of John and Hattie (Van Kooten) Van Arkel. "Howie" passed away June 4, 2009, at the home of his sister's, Esther and James Doonan of Pueblo, Colorado. He is survived by his brother James (Doris) Van Arkel of Malcom, Iowa; his sisters: Esther Smits (James Doonan) of Pueblo, Colorado, Ila (Robert) Ketter of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, Carolyn (William) Trumbore of Aurora, Colorado, JoAnn (Guy) Fortier of Incline Village, Nevada.
Howie's family moved to the Prairie City, Iowa area in 1943. He was preceded in death by his mother in 1971 and his father in 1974. He has since made his home four months of each year with his three oldest siblings and their spouses and children.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, June 11th at the Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home in Newton.
Friends may greet the family after 1:00 p.m., Thursday, June 11, service time at the funeral home. Memorials may be designated in to the Sangre De Cristo Hospice of Pueblo, Colorado.
Calling hours will be Thursday from One hour prior to services, with the family at Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home, 310 N. 2nd Ave. E., Newton, IA. The funeral will be Thursday at 2:00 at Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home, 310 N. 2nd Ave. E., Newton with officiating.
Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Newton on Thursday at 2:45 pm.
