Death of Edward F. Borts
Last rites for Edward F. Borts, 75, native of the Mingo community who passed away at 8:15 a.m. last Sunday in Corona, California, were held Friday, Feb. 17th at Ashton Chapel, 3 miles north of Mingo with Rev. Robert W. Shields officiating at 1:00 p.m.
Mr. Borts married Sylvia (Colwell) Borts in 1895 and in addition to the widow he is survived by three sons, Edward of Milford, Ia., Hugh of Estherville, Ia., and Othal of Corona, California. A daughter Mrs. Miriam Akins passed away in 1924. Mr. Borts has five living sisters who are Mrs. Lettie Hays of Mingo, Ia.; Mrs. Geo. Rumbaugh, Nevada, Ia.; Mrs. Emma Miller, Percy, Ia.; Mrs. W. A. Couch of Spooner, Wisc., and Mrs. Grace Atwood, Alhambra, California. Ten grandchildren and nine great grandchildren also survive together with many other relatives and a host of friends.
Mr. Borts was born Dec. 14, 1874 just north of Mingo and six years ago left Truro, Iowa (then his residence) for California where he has resided since.
Honorary pallbearers were W. M. Byal, Fred Geisler, Garret Akins, Hilster Baker, Roy Westfall and Charley Maxwell. Active bearers were Hugh Byal, Wesley Borts, Paul Borts, Hollis Hanson, Blaine Mullihan and Ted Hay.
Music was burnished by Otha Hulse, Eldon Geisler, Mrs. Lou Neal and Mrs. Howard Southern with Mrs. Audra Harter the pianist. Songs were “The Old Rugged Cross” and “Abide With Me.”
The flower committee was composed of Mrs. Wesley Borts and Mrs. Eldon Geisler.
