Final Rites for Mrs. Amanda Logsdon Held Friday
Final rites for Mrs. Amanda A. Logsdon, 89, were held Friday afternoon from the Methodist church with Rev. Floyd Shepherd officiating. Mrs. Logsdon, a real pioneer of this community, having lived her entire life in this vicinity, died May 18th in a Des Moines nursing home, following many weeks of illness.
Amanda Angeline Logsdon was born June 24, 1859 on a farm 2 ½ miles north of Colfax and was 89 years, 10 months, 25 days of age at the time of her death.
She was the daughter of Burton and Nancy Hurst. She spent her younger days on the farm and attended school near her home.
On Oct. 4, 1878, she was married to Burton L. Logsdon; they made their home on a farm a few years then moved to Colfax spending the rest of their lives here.
A daughter, Josephine was born to this union and she spent her entire life with her parents.
Mrs. Logsdon was active in church and was a member of the Rebecca Lodge and attended regularly as long as her health permitted. She was also a member of the Three Quarter Century Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband and daughter 16 years ago. Since that time she continued to stay at her home until last June when she injured her hip and was taken to the hospital. After spending seven weeks there, she was removed to a nursing home and remained there until her death.
She leaves to mourn her loss two sisters, Mrs. P. O. Stevens of Newton, Mrs. Ola Robertson of Huntington Park, California and a brother W. S. Hurst of Oakland, California besides several nieces and nephews.
She united with the Colfax Methodist church in 1885 and as long as her health would permit was loyal to its services.
Music was furnished by Mrs. Mary Woods with Miss Eleanor Howell accompanist.
Pallbearers were Eugene Burnett, John Hahn, F. M. Krohn, Jr., Ralph Cummings, Tom Hughes, and Geo. Weirick.
Flower committee, Mrs. Charles Elliott and Mrs. C. L. Graham.
Burial was in the Colfax cemetery.
