McKinny, Hilma – 1933-2009

Hilma Mae McKinney, the daughter of Lewis Henry and Grace Irene (Walker) Dammeier, was born Nov. 24, 1933, at Metz, Iowa. She graduated from the Newton Senior High School, class of 1952.
On March 28, 1953, Hilma was united in marriage with Donald McKinney in Newton, Iowa. She devoted her life to her husband and family. Hilma worked as a telephone operator for many years. She was a member of the Newton Foursquare Church. Hilma always enjoyed rooting for the Chicago Cubs and the Iowa Hawkeyes. She was a member of the Red Hats Society and T.O.P.S. She enjoyed bowling and her many trips to Branson, Mo.
Hilma died Wednesday, April 15, 2009, at her home at Newton Village. She was 75 years old. Hilma was preceded in death by her parents; one granddaughter; a sister, Vera Boles; and a brother, Derald Dammeier.
Those left to honor Hilma’s memory include her husband of 56 years, Donald McKinney of Newton; her daughters, Ellen and Dale Ritter of Newton, Rhonda and Rich Boyd of Appleton, Wis., and Penny and Jeff Wrage of Newton; her eight grandchildren; her nine great-grandchildren; her sisters, Marcy and Larry Romick of Monroe, Iowa, and Merita Dammeier, Arlene Boyer, Roma Mosher and Luella Bragg, all of Newton; her brother, Murray and Diane of Newton; and many nieces and nephews.
Family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 17, 2009, at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Saturday, April 18, 2009, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Palo Alto Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Newton Foursquare Church.
