TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — Donald Max Jones, 76, of Terre Haute, Ind., passed away on Tuesday, March 31, 2009, in his residence.
He was born Jan. 28, 1933, in Newton to Burr M. Jones and Velma B. Baker Jones.
Donald retired as director of distributing from Columbia House in 1988. He married Georgia L. Hohnbaum in 1952 in Council Bluffs. She died in February of 1991 after a lengthy battle with cancer. He then married Betty R. Goda Tennant in December of 1991. She passed away in March of 2009.
Survivors include four daughters, Deborah Scott and husband John of Rigby, Idaho, Tierri Peterston and husband Keith of Bossier City, La., Laurie Anthony and husband Steve of Newton and Karen Jones of Clearwater, British Columbia; a stepson, Tim Tennant and wife Dee of Terre Haute; a stepdaughter, Karen Snider and husband Steve of Martinsville, Ind.; grandchildren, Molly Mykisen of Nevada, James Jones of Iowa, Todd Schrier of Louisiana, Joshua Cupples of Iowa, Tianna Bresley and husband Norm of Iowa, Donny Sudbrock of Iowa, Hope Shondell of Iowa and Wendy Lambie of Texas; step-grandchildren, Kimberly Yaman and husband Trent of Chicago, Ill., D.J. Tennant of Terre Haute and Chrissie Tennant of Brownsburg, Ind., and Nicole, Samantha, Michael, Danielle and Devon Shondell of Iowa; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Georgia L. Hohnbaum Jones; second wife, Betty Goda Jones; one sister, Irma Jean Jones; one brother, Richard Jones; and a grandchild, Rodney Schrier.
Donald was a Marine veteran of the Korean War, a member of the Marine Corps League, the Sycamore Country Club, the Elks, the American Legion and volunteered at T.H. Regional Hospital. He taught and called square dancing throughout the Midwest in his younger years.
Donald enjoyed golfing and participating in Pioneer Days at Fowler Park. He also was a wood carver who enjoyed making walking canes and giving them as gifts to those who needed them.
Memorial services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Saturday at Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th Street in Terre Haute, Ind., with the Pastor Rick Swan officiating followed by military services by V.F.W. Post #972. Visitation is scheduled from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday in the funeral home.
