Robert Glen Patterson (Bob) passed away Sunday, March 15, 2009, at Mercy Hospital with family members present.
Bob was born on Dec. 3, 1931, at Prairie City, Iowa, the son of George Leroy Patterson and Zola Belle (Patrie) Patterson. Bob attended Prairie City High School and graduated as valedictorian of his class in 1950. After graduation, he joined the United State Air Force, serving during the Korean War and attaining the rank of staff sergeant. After the war, Bob attended and graduated from Drake University in with a degree in pharmacy.
Bob married Donna May Jones of Colfax on Sept. 16, 1955. The couple had two sons, Douglas (Doug) Robert Patterson and Steven (Steve) Phillip Patterson. The family moved to Colfax after Bob’s graduation from Drake University. In Colfax, Bob spent the next 50 years as a pharmacist at Weirick’s later Weirick and Patterson Pharmacy.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Donna; his sons, Doug (Wendy) Patterson and Steve (Willow) Patterson, all of Colfax; seven grandchildren, Courtney (Brian) Buchman of Colfax, David (Julianne) Patterson of Altoona and Whitney, Robert, Stuart and Kaitlyn Patterson, all of Colfax; two great granddaughters, Emmalyn and Meleinna; and several nieces and nephews.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, George Patterson, Ralph Smith; and a sister Maxine Farley.
Memorials may be given to the Colfax Historical Society.
Services are by Coburn Funeral Home of Colfax, with visitation today, March 17, 2009, from 2 to 8 p.m., with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Services are Wednesday, March 18, at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Colfax.
