Lucille De Greef, 88, of Newton died Saturday, March 14, 2009, at the Hospice of Jasper County Monarch Wing. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, at Wallace Family Funeral Home, with Chaplain Merle Smith officiating. Burial will be at Newton Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
Lucille was born on March 24, 1920, in rural Taintor to John and Lillian (Kruseman) Vander Krol. She was united in marriage to Marthinus De Greef on July 8, 1946, in rural Newton. She was a cook for the TKE Fraternity at Iowa State University in Ames for many years, retiring in 1985. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church, she enjoyed cooking especially for “her boys” of the TKE Fraternity, she also enjoyed embroidering, cross stitch and doing Find-A-Word puzzles.
She is survived by two daughters, Valee (Art) Wood of Colorado Springs, Colo. JoAnn (Roger) Hinshaw of Newton,; three grandchildren: Duane DePenning of Seattle, Wash., Tony (Dawn) Renaud of Newton, Missy (Doug) Miller of Newton and one granddaughter - in- law Janine DePenning of Baxter. Six great-grandchildren: Remington and Paige DePenning of Baxter, Kharren Cella DePenning of Portland, Ore., Jordan Foreman of Newton, and Alex and Nathan Miller of Newton; three brothers: Leo (Nellie) Vande Krol of Pella, Lehrl (Ruth) Vande Krol of Montezuma, Dan (Sandy) Vande Krol of Sully, and one sister-in-law Margaret Vande Krol of Sully.
She is preceded in death by her parents, step mother, Edna Vande Krol; her husband Mart; her grandson Del DePenning; her brothers, Russell and Lloyd Vande Krol; and her sister, Treva Meppelink.
In lieu of flowers the family request that memorials be given to Hospice of Jasper County.
