Funeral services for Stanley Rooda, 77, of Newton will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 11, at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton. Friends may call one hour prior to the services on Wednesday at the Funeral Home.
The son of Andrew and Clara (Van Dyk) Rooda, Stanley was born May 8, 1931, in Vrouwen Parochie, Friesland, the Netherlands. He had completed all of his school education in the Netherlands. Stanley’s family moved to the United States in October 1948. He would serve his new country, the United States, with the Army, from Oct. 31, 1951, to Oct. 14, 1953.
In January of 1954, Stanley was united in marriage with Beatrice Roose in Peoria, Iowa. To this union a son, Larry, was born in October of 1954. Stanley operated the Dutch Inn Café in Pella, Iowa, prior to his family moving to the Newton area. He was employed in various jobs in Newton, retiring from the Maytag Company. Stanley had devoted his life to his family and was a faithful caregiver to his wife and son, who both suffered from muscular dystrophy. He enjoyed the outdoors, gardening and reading.
Stanley passed away on Thursday morning, March 5, 2009, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Beatrice, on Aug. 30, 1998; his son, Larry, on Jan. 1, 2000; a brother, Gerrit Rooda; and his sister, Renee Van Zee.
Those left to honor Stanley’s memory include his brother, Henry (Donna) Rooda of Otley, Iowa; a brother-in-law, Albert VanZee of Otley; several nieces and nephews; and his special friends, John and Julie Neef of Newton.
Online condolences may be left for the family at www.pencefh.com. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Stanley’s name are being designated or given to the charity of the donor’s choice.
