Brassfield, Olan L. L. ‘Ole’ – 1934-2009

Olan L.L. “Ole” Brassfield, 74, of Newton died on Tuesday, March 3, 2009, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 6, 2009, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton. Chaplain Merle Smith of Skiff Medical Center in Newton will be officiating.
The family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Burial will be at the Newton Union Cemetery in the Vets II section with Military Honors by the Iowa Army National Guard. Memorials in Ole’s name may be left at the funeral home.
Ole served in the Iowa Army National Guard for 32 years, from 1953 to 1985. He worked as an operation and readiness sergeant. After his retirement from the Guard, Ole worked for Farver True Value and U.S. Bank, both in Newton. He was the president of the Jasper County Veterans Council, a member of the Newton Moose Lodge No. 923, EANGI Association and the Congregational United Church of Christ in Newton. Ole loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed camping, fishing, being in the outdoors and working in the yard.
Survivors include his wife, Judy of Newton; three sons, Bruce (Debbie) Brassfield, Gary “Bubba” (Melissa) Pearson and Rob (Brenda) Pearson; two daughters, Sheri (David) Hansen and Tina (Chad) Rorabaugh, all of Newton; 13 grandchildren, Tim Richardson, Heather Anderson, Emily Brassfield, Sean Brassfield, Ashley Hansen, Blake Hansen, Colin Hansen, Mackenzie Hansen, Cody Pearson, Elizabeth Pearson, Christopher Pearson, Gracie Rorabaugh and Chloe Rorabaugh; three great-grandchildren, Madison, Evan and Megan Anderson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his son, Kenneth Brassfield.

Olan L. L. “Ole” Brassfield, the son of Lindsey and Lola (McDougal) Brassfield, was born on December 05, 1934 in Mercer, Missouri. Ole has lived in Newton for 29 years. Prior to moving to Newton he had lived in Fort Dodge, Iowa.
On July 3, 1975, Ole was united in marriage with Judy B. (Rork) Pearson in Kalo, Iowa.
