BAXTER — Memorial services for Eva F. Kling will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. today, Monday, Feb. 23, at the Funeral Home.
Eva F. Kling, 83, the daughter of Loren B. and Gladys I. (Kent) Murphy, was born Jan. 16, 1926, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton. Eva and her twin sister, Reva, were the first twins born at Skiff Medical Center. Eva was a graduate of the Mingo High School, Class of 1944, and later Normal Training.
On Dec. 22, 1945, Eva was united in marriage with Robert L. Kling at the Lutheran Church in Newton. She had devoted her life to her family and friends and enjoyed sewing. Eva taught rural country school for several years, was the receptionist for both Dr. Fred Carpenter Sr. and Jr. for 25 years and then for Dr. T.E. Jessen for 23 years. She was a member of the Buena Vista Grange and First Lutheran Church. Eva, a longtime resident of the Newton area, had moving to Baxter in 2002 to be near her daughter.
Eva passed away on Wednesday evening, Feb. 18, 2009, at the Baxter Health Care Center. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert; her two sons in infancy, Ronald and Kent; and her brother, Kenneth Murphy. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.pencefh.com.
Those left to honor Eva’s memory include her daughter, Mary Ann (David) England of Baxter; three grandchildren, Judd Penny, Jolie (Bob) Gulling and Todd (Lynae) England; her three great-grandchildren, Kennedy Gulling, Abby England and Austin England; her twin sister, Reva Lowry of Des Moines; a brother, Marvin Murphy of Mesa, Ariz.; and her many good neighbors and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Eva’s name are being designated for the Baxter Community School Playground Fund, Hospice of Jasper County or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
