Thomas “Tom” D. Sprouse SKCS USN Ret., age 71 of Kellogg, formerly of Ames, died Thursday February 12, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 16, 2009 at 12:00 p.m. at Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax with burial following at McKeever Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com.
The son of Alfred and Mary (Hedgecock) Sprouse, Tom was born on December 23, 1937, in Iowa City, Iowa on October 14, 1968, he was united in marriage to Virginia Miller in Charleston, South Carolina.
Tom proudly served in the United States Navy, retiring after 20 years of service. Tom worked for several years at Benson Motors in Ames.
Those left to honor his memory are his wife, Virginia of Kellogg; his children, Sandy (Jim) Keiper of Virginia, Robin Buchanan of Tennessee, Dennis (Cheryl) Piotraschke of Newton, Alfred Sprouse of Des Moines (Formerly of Ames) and Inona (Paul) Fairchild of Waterloo (formerly of Ames); 13 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Preceding Tom in death were his parents, his first wife Shirley; three children, Dianna, Tommy and Steven “Butch” and a brother Joe Sprouse.
Visitation: Monday, from 10:00 a.m. until noon at the funeral home.
Service: Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 16, 2009 at 12:00 p.m. at Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax.
