Christena Rosina Lindwurm Neuharth was born on January 30, 1914 north of Osmond, Nebraska, the first child of William and Rosa Kumm Lindwurm. At the age of six years old her mother passed away. One year later she moved by train with her father and twin sisters to Carlock, South Dakota to be with her brother and baby sister who were staying by her Grandma and Grandpa Lindwurm. She attended rural school at Pleasant View District No. 53 near the Nebraska and South Dakota border all of her eight years. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in which she remained until her death. After graduating from school she helped her father and mother with chores and also worked out for many neighbor ladies and relatives doing babysitting and other chores. On December 31, 1933 she was married to Emil Neuharth of Burke, South Dakota at his parents’ home. As a young couple they began farming in the Burke area. To this union two children, Leroy and Arlene, were born. They farmed for many years. In 1968 they moved to Gregory, South Dakota. Both Christena and Emil were janitors of Bank West for twelve years. They retired and moved into Nemer’s Apartments. Christena loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She always would bake an angel food cake when family came home. Her place was the gathering spot for family on the 4th of July. She also loved tending to her flowers and garden and putting many puzzles together. Christena and her husband celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on December 31, 2003. Christena is survived by a son, Leroy Neuharth of Gregory, SD; a daughter, Arlene (Dennis) Dobesh of Newton, IA; six grancchildren, Randy (Jerri) Neuharth of Yankton; Sandy (Doug) Stukel of Burke; Christi (Troy) Richardson of Black Hawk; Cory (Stacey) Neuharth of Belle Fourche; Brad (Teresa) Dobesh of Olathe, KS; and Scott (Deb) Dobesh of Clive, IA; fourteen great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Elsie Fode of Burke, Ella Hanson, Alvina Wonnenberg and Esther Braun of Gregory; two brothers, William of Burke and John of Gregory. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and other relatives, and friends. Christena was preceded in death by her husband, Emil; her parents; her stepmother; and infant brother; a brother Phillip; and a sister, Rosie Senglemen.
