Cleo B. Thomas

DES MOINES - Cleo B. Thomas, 70, of Des Moines, formerly of Jasper County, died Sunday, Aug. 29, at The Abby Nursing Home in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with the Rev. Ken Wallace of the Newburg-Chester Congregational Church officiating. Burial will be at Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell. Memorials to the Malcom United Methodist Church will be accepted.

The son of Charles McKinney and Flonnie Thompson Thomas, he was born Oct. 21, 1928, in Rock Creek Township in Jasper County. He attended rural school and completed his education in the Malcom School District following his family's move to Malcom in 1943.

Mr. Thomas worked as a farmer in the Malcom area. He moved to the Montezuma Senior Home in 1993 before moving to Des Moines recently. Mr. Thomas was a member of the Malcom United Methodist Church and enjoyed the outdoors, animals, gardening and sports.

Survivors include his mother, Flonnie of Grinnell; a brother, Lawrence of Montezuma; three sisters, Louise See of Altoona, Lillian Leadmon of Newton and Dorothy Thomas of Altoona; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, two brothers and a sister. ~ Newton Daily News, Tuesday, August 31, 1999, p. 7A.
